IPL, being the biggest T20 League of the world cannot happen without the Aussie stars. The most expensive player of IPL this year and overall too, is also an Australian, Mitchell Starc. A total of 16 Aussie players will play the 2024 edition of Indian Premier League. They are spread around in 9 different teams. Interestingly, the only team without an Aussie player in their squad is defending champion Chennai Super Kings.

Australian Players in Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have Tim David and Jason Behrendroff in their squad. Previously they had Cameron Green too, but they traded him to RCB this year. Tim David represented Mumbai last year as well scoring 231 runs averaging 25 with a strike rate of 158.

The lanky Jason Behrendroff took 14 wickets in 12 matches in IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians. Behrendroff is in action during BBL 2023 and he has piled up good number of wickets, which proves he is in great form. David on the other hand, has not done anything significant lately in professional cricket and is struggling for form.

Australian Players in Royal Challengers Bangalore

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have got a couple of Australians in their unit. Star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, and the newly traded in Cameron Green. Green has been a big name in the IPL. He scored 452 runs for Mumbai Indians last year. This year he was traded for 15 crores to RCB. Not only he is good with the bat, but is also quite decent with the ball too.

Glenn Maxwell on the other hand needs no introduction at all. He has been a core member of RCB since long. Maxwell scored 400 runs last year for RCB. His gun fielding and occasional spin bowling is quite helpful too. Maxwell was also in tremendous form during the World Cup 2023 and also scored a T20 century against India right after the World Cup.

Australian Players in Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals have got 3 Kangaroos in their lineup. They will be led by David Warner, and they also has All-Rounder Mitchell Marsh and Jhye Richardson in their unit. Despite a struggling campaign last year, Delhi retained both of their Australian players from last year, Marsh and Warner. David Warner was their top run getter with 516 runs in IPL 2023.

Mitchell Marsh struggled big time for them last year with only 128 runs to his name. However, both Marsh and Warner played extremely well in the 2023 World Cup in India. Marsh and Warner have continued their explosive form in the tests against Pakistan too, and the Capitals would hope that both of them continue the same in IPL. Meanwhile, Jhye Richardson was brought by the Capitals for 5 Crores. Jhye was in Mumbai Indians last year, but couldn’t play due to injury.

The Kolkata Knight Riders opted for only one Australian Player, but that one Aussie is perhaps the biggest of all. Mitchell Starc was purchased for 24.75 crores in the auction. He is till date the most expensive player of IPL history. Starc took 16 wickets in the World Cup 2023 in India. While many believe he is getting old, Starc still bowls with the same fire. He scored 408 runs in IPL 2023 along with taking 5 wickets. Stoinis has struggled for form lately. He has been in and out of the Aussie limited overs lineup too. He has played few good batting cameos but his consistency is a big problem.

Ashton Turner on the other hand was bought for 1 crore in the auction. He is a household name in the Big Bash League. With close to 3000 runs, he is a reliable T20 batter and a decent off-spin bowler. Turner has previously been a part of Rajasthan Royals in the past.

Australian Players in Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have only one Australian Player in their unit, but that one is not less than anyone. The highest wicket taking spinner of World Cup 2023 in India, Adam Zampa (23 wickets) is a part of the Rajasthan Royals. Zampa troubled many good batters in the Indian Conditions recently. In last year’s IPL, he could only play 6 games in which he took 8 wickets averaging 23. Zampa is currently featuring in the BBL where he has been decent so far.

Australian Stars in Gujarat Titans

The runners-up of last year’s IPL, Gujarat Titans have also got a couple of Australian Stars in their pool. Gujarat Retained Matthew Wade for IPL 2024. Wade couldn’t get a chance to play in IPL 2023 because Wriddhiman Saha did well for the Titans, yet the Titans have retained Wade for another season. The former World T20 winner was seen in the BBL recently scoring a brilliant 82 against Melbourne Renegades. He is in good rhythm and the fans would expect to see him at least once this year in the Playing XI.

Spencer Johnson, an emerging pacer was brought for 10 Crores by the Titans. So far, he has played just 21 T20s, but his varieties have been exceptional and he has caught attention world-wide. The young man will play IPL for the very first time.
