If we call IPL as IPL Australia than we won’t be wrong because as many as 31 Australian cricketers shortlisted for IPL auction but only 19 of them picked by different IPL franchises at the auction day. Former Australian captain joins Delhi Capitals for IPL 2021 edition. Delhi Capitals bought Steve Smith for 2.2 crore INR in IPL auction.

Steve Smith is one of the seasoned campaigners and has played more than 200 T20 matches around the globe. Only in IPL he has represented as many as 4 teams including Pune Warriors, Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiants, Royal Challengers Bangalore before Delhi Capitals.

Smith has updated his game as per the requirements of modern T20 cricket and his unorthodox batting stance yielding him good runs in shortest format of the game and that too even at strike rate of 126 which is improving with every passing day.

Nathan Coulter-Nile  is another Australian cricket who is part of IPL 2021 and will represent Mumbai Indians. Another talent which is finding it hard to secure place in already start studded fast bowling contingent of Australia.

Australian players in RCB 2021

Josh Philippe play for RCB

Young Australian wicket keeper batsman Josh Philippe is been lucky to pick in an IPL side at an early age and it will definitely help his in developing his game further.

At 23, he has represented Australia in 5 T20 matches so far. Maintaining decent batting average of 30 with a strike rate of 137 runs per 100 balls in domestic cricket. This will be his first stint with any T20 franchise cricket league other than BBL.

Philippe made his IPL debut in 2020 with RCB and was retained by franchise in 2021 but after the auction he withdrawn himself and opt to be out of IPL 2021 for entire season but thanks to IPL dividing into two parts he will be available for 2nd phase of IPL in UAE.

Another Australian cricketer in IPL 2021 is Kane Richardson. He will be playing for Royal Challenger Bangalore during IPL 2021. He is another young Australian quick who has been in and out of national side despite good showing.

He has taken 152 T20 wickets in 126 matches during his IPL and Big Bash League career so far. His change-ups will make him more lethal in T20 cricket.

Daniel Sams has been traded by his previous franchise Delhi Capitals with RCB and now he will make his IPL debut for RCB during 14th edition of IPL. Sams had an unimpressive outing for Delhi Capitals in 2020 where in 3 matches neither he took wickets nor scored runs in single outing with the bat.

Sams made his international debut this season but had already made 54 T20 appearances fro various T20 sides. 67 wickets at an average of 21 but with an economy of more than 8.5 runs per over. However he can make his bat talk with some lusty hitting down the order 2 T20 fifties at a career strike rate of 148 runs per 100 balls makes him a good package.

He will not be available for UAE part of IPL 2021 as he opted to miss IPL remaining games.

Maxwell and Zampa will represent RCB in IPL 2021

Another all rounder from Australia who has made it to IPL and retained by his franchise SRH is Mitchell Marsh. Marsh hasn’t been able to showcase his full talent despite performing with bat and ball every now and then.

More than 2000 runs in 113 games and 57 wickets with his medium fats bowling is not the true representation of his talent but still SRH trusting his abilities just like Australian selectors.

Young Australian quick Jhye Richardson who was the highest wicket taker in BBL this season has made this count and Jhye Richardson secured a mammoth deal of 14 crores INR during IPL auction 2021 with Punjab Kings.

Still in early days of his career he has taken 82 wickets in 67 t20 matches all played in BBL and IPL so far.

It seems that making an international debut for Australia this season has helped Riley Meredith to secure a IPL deal with Punjab Kings after remain unsold during last year’s IPL auction.

Closing on 50 T20 wickets in 37 games Riley Meredith can generate some serious pace with his right arm fast bowling.

Both Jhye Richardson & Riley Meredith have opted out from the UAE phase of IPL 2021.

Moises Henriques was picked by Punjab Kings during auction 2021. Fast bowling all rounder has been part of various IPL franchises previously his credentials in T20 cricket is not very impressive especially with the ball.

111 wickets and 3900 runs in 213 appearances didn’t justify his talent and he also gets shocked when he got picked by an IPL team as he was not expecting a call.

Another Australian fast bowler finding place in replacement IPL squad is Natahn Ellis. Ellis has been picked by Punjab Kings to replace countrymen Riley Meredith who will be sitting out of IPL remaining matches.

Ellis doesn’t have outstanding record in T20 cricket as he has managed to pick 38 wickets in 34 games in his BBL career so far.
