England Players in PSL 2022 Teams
England Cricketers in Peshawar Zalmi
Peshawar Zalmi didn’t opt for any English player during the draft, but they retained 3 of their previous season English stars. They retained the destructive batting duo of Liam Livingstone and Tom Kohler Cadmore. Moreover, they also retained swing specialist, Saqib Mahmood.
Livingstone was retained in the Platinum Category, Saqib Mahmood in Gold, and Tom Kohler Cadmore in the silver category. The presence of these England cricketers in the Pakistan Super League will boost Zalmi’s chances.
Saqib Mahmood picked up 12 wickets last edition of PSL in just 5 matches that he featured. Saqib was Zalmi’s best bowler in the first leg but he couldn’t join Zalmi in the UAE leg (after Covid-19 Break).
Tom Kohler Cadmore had a good run in the recently concluded LPL with the bat. TK Cadmore also scored 113 runs in 4 games in PSL 2021 for Peshawar Zalmi. He is most likely to begin the innings for Zalmi this year considering his electric form lately.
Liam Livingstone’s vast experience in the shortest format of the game and his killer strike rate forced Zalmi to put their faith in Liam once again. Livingstone did fairly well in the T10 League, his part-time spin bowling is also very useful in the shorter format of the game.
English Players in Quetta Gladiators
Quetta’s opening pair consists of two explosive English batsmen. Jason Roy and James Vince were chosen by the Gladiators. Roy was picked in the Platinum Category of the draft, while Vince was transferred from Multan Sultans to Quetta Gladiators in Platinum Category.
Jason Roy has been with the Gladiators before and he needs no introduction. His explosive style of batting was missing from Quetta’s top order in PSL 2021 and hence they struggled last year. But now they have gone back to Jason Roy hoping that he would end their top order problems.
James Vince’s trade to Quetta Gladiators is considered a great move by the Gladiators. James Vince has scored 144 runs in 6 games in the ongoing Big Bash League. The pair of Roy and Vince can tear apart any bowling lineup at the top of the order.
Ben Duckett is another English player in PSL. Duckett has scored over 3000 runs in T20 Cricket at an average of 30. He is unlikely to feature in the first XI but he could be a good backup choice for the middle order of Quetta Gladiators.
England Players in Lahore Qalandars
Three England cricketers in PSL 2022 representing Lahore Qalandars. At first, they opted for Phil Salt and Harry Brook. In the supplementary round, they picked Samit Patel.
Phil Salt is most likely to take the glove work responsibility for Lahore Qalandars this year and open the innings. Salt has a strike rate of 150 in his T20 career. He had a great run in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League, but he failed to convert his starts into big ones.
Harry Brook has promising numbers. He averages 36 in T20 Cricket and has a strike rate of 146. However, he has managed just 3 runs in his last 3 BBL matches and that must be concerning the Qalandars management.
Samit Patel is a veteran of the format and he has represented the Qalandars before. Samit was the best bowler of the recently concluded Lanka Premier League 2021 after picking up 16 wickets in the event. Samit is the second major spinner in the Lahore Qalandars squad after Rashid Khan, and Samit Patel would be very useful in Lahore conditions.
England Cricketers in Islamabad United
Islamabad United retained swashbuckling England opening batsman Alex Hales for PSL 2022 as well. Hales has been an integral part of Islamabad United and he is suitable for Islamabad’s all-out attack approach. Hales scored 139 runs in the 4 matches that he played last year. He had a whopping strike rate of 171. Hales has had a decent BBL season where he has been able to give aggressive starts to his side but not be able to convert it into big scores.
The second English player in Islamabad United is Reece Topley. Topley was also picked by Islamabad in one of the previous PSL editions but he wasn’t able to play. Reece Topley has quite a lot of experience, he has 123 T20 wickets to his name. However, his recent form has been questionable as he has leaked runs at an economy rate above 9 in Big Bash League 2021.
England Players in Karachi Kings
Karachi Kings is the side with the most number of English players in their side. Karachi Kings retained Joe Clarke for this season as well.
Clarke was retained in Gold Category, and he is the brand ambassador of the side as well. Joe Clarke scored 121 runs at an average of 30 and strike rate of 175 last year in PSL for Karachi Kings. He was unable to join the side after Covid-19 Break. Joe Clarke has had a good run in BBL 2021 so far, and he will be once again Karachi Kings’ first-choice wicketkeeper.
The Kings picked Lewis Gregory, Chris Jordan, and Tom Abell. Jordan has returned to his former franchise for PSL 2022. He missed PSL 2021 but he has been with Karachi Kings previously. Jordan is renowned for his death bowling where he is very economical. However, he is a little off-color lately as seen in BBL. Still, the king has put their faith in Jordan, as they opted for him in the Platinum Category.
Lewis Gregory played just 2 games for Islamabad United last year yet he was able to put up a Man of the Match performance. He scored 49*. Gregory is quite a useful all-rounder in T20 Cricket as he averages 30 with the bat, and also has over 100 wickets in his T20 career.
Tom Abell is a great middle-order batsman. He averages 33 with the bat at a strike rate of 143 in T20 Cricket. He was with Lahore Qalandars in one of the previous editions of PSL but now Karachi Kings have opted him to solve the middle order issues that they had last year.
