Babar Azam named Peshawar Zalmi Captain for PSL 8

Pakistan all-format captain and Karachi Kings former captain Babar Azam named Peshawar Zalmi captain for the PSL 8 edition that will take place next year. Babar recently parted with KK, who he led during the 2020 – 2021 season but failed to create an impact as KK lost 10 out of 11 games under his leadership.

However, since then, Babar Azam’s credentials as captain have been on the rise, especially in T20 cricket, as he led the Pakistan cricket team to the final of ICC WT20 2022 and also reached the semi-final in last year’s global T20 event.

Babar is currently the most successful batter in PSL history as he amassed 2413 runs in 68 matches with 26 fifties. Zalmi has pinned high hopes with his recruitment in their squad as this is the biggest trade in PSL history.

Peshawar Zalmi won the PSL title once in 2017 under Darren Sammy’s leadership. They have been the runners-up thrice. PSL 2021 was their worst performance season, like 2020, when they ended fourth amongst the six PSL teams.

Over the career spanned on 244 matches Babar Azam has scored more than 8000 in T20 cricket with 07 centuries. Although he is yet to cross three figure landmark in PSL so far.
