India vs England Match Preview

Team India is currently at 2nd spot in the Points Table and are yet undefeated in the event. They won their last game against New Zealand by 4 wickets and are currently the top contenders to be the first team to qualify for the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, the defending champions have had a disastrous campaign so far. They are at the bottom of the table with just 1 win out of their 5 games. In their last game, they suffered a big 8 wicket defeat against Sri Lanka.

Lucknow has seen spinners getting some assistance and with Team India having a strong spin attack it is highly likely that this track could be a rank turner. Both sides will be playing at Lucknow for the very first time in this world cup. India is clearly ahead in terms of batting and spin attack.

England need to fire back somehow. They are out of contention for the semis but a moral lifter is needed. England’s batting needs to click while they have a fair enough spin attack. Adil Rashid can bowl well with good support of Moeen Ali, Joe Root and Liam Livingstone. India however, will begin this game as favorites.

India Expected Playing XI

India will bring in Ravi Ashwin surely for this game. However, it will be very interesting to see whom they rest. If they leave out Suryakumar Yadav they will definitely be a batter short, but Siraj and Bumrah have done well in this event, while Shami took a fifer in the last game. It is hard being an Indian captain as you have to make a tough call.

Probable XI: 1 Rohit Sharma (C), 2 Shubman Gill, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Shreyas Iyer, 5 KL Rahul (wk), 6 Suryakumar Yadav/Ravi Ashwin, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Kuldeep Yadav, 9 Mohammad Shami, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj

England Expected Playing XI

England might leave out Chris Woakes for Sam Curran as they will be looking for some wicket-taking options.

Probable Lineup: 1 Jonny Bairstow, 2 Dawid Malan, 3 Joe Root, 4 Ben Stokes, 5 Jos Buttler (C, wk), 6 Moeen Ali, 7 Liam Livingstone, 8 Chris Woakes/Sam Curran, 9 David Willey, 10 Mark Wood, 11 Adil Rashid

India vs England Head to Head Record

Both teams have locked horns 8 times in World Cup against each other. England have won 4 games, 3 have gone India’s way while 1 game ended as a tie between the two sides. Overall, both sides have faced each other 106 times in ODI Cricket. India have dominated this rivalry with 57 wins while England have won just 44.

Players to Watch-Out For

Indian spin attack of Jadeja-Ashwin-Kuldeep will be the most dangerous trio in this game. Kuldeep has 8 wickets in this tournament and Jadeja has 7. The control that these two bring is brilliant. Moreover, Ashwin played just one game in the event so far. He had figures of 1/34 in that. On a turning track of Lucknow tackling these 3 together will be a big headache for English batters.

With the bat, many Indian batters are in form, but the stand-out performer is Rohit Sharma. Rohit averages 62 with a strike rate of 133 in this event and the kind of start he gives, breaks the momentum of the opponents in the first ten overs itself. Getting Rohit out quickly will be key.

Dawid Malan has been the only positive for England so far. Malan is their top scorer with 220 runs. Root also has a couple of half centuries in the event but he has not been able to score big runs. If England want to succeed, they need to score big and bat with a little more responsibility which Malan and Root are capable of.

Bangladesh vs South Africa Match Prediction
