India 2023 World Cup Squad

The two major omissions from the squad were Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel. Rishabh was obvious to miss out as he is still recovering from his nasty road accident. Axar Patel was ruled out after suffering a shoulder injury in the Asia Cup 2023. Axar’s absence can hurt India as the all-rounder was very good with the bat, especially in a collapse situation. India added veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as his replacement in the squad.

Following is the team analysis of India for World Cup 2023.

Team India Captain for World Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma, the hitman of Indian cricket, will lead the side in the 2023 ODI World Cup. A fun fact about Rohit Sharma is that he has never lost a final of an ODI Tournament. Rohit Sharma has won 2 Asia Cup titles in his career, one in T20I format and the other in ODI format.

Rohit Sharma has led team India in 34 ODI matches and has won 24 out of those with a win percentage 72. His impressive win percentage as captain in ODIs makes him a favourite contender to lift the ICC World Cup 2023 trophy.

Team India Batsmen for World Cup 2023

Indian Cricket Team has arguably the strongest batting unit for World Cup 2023. Starting with the skipper himself, Rohit Sharma has scored 658 runs at an average of 50 in ODI cricket this year. Rohit’s opening partner, Shubman Gill, has scored 1230 ODI runs already at an astonishing average of 72 this year.

The King Virat Kohli and KL Rahul also averaged 55+ with the bat this year in ODI cricket. Getting through the Indian top order won’t be easy for the opponents.

The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan strengthened the middle order of India as well. Shreyas Iyer averages 37 with the bat, and he is quite reliable as a batter. Ishan Kishan has been floated in the batting order, giving the Indian batting lineup great flexibility.

Suryakumar Yadav remains a weak link in the Indian batting unit, but he is probably not the first-choice player in the ODI side and is there in the squad for backup. Besides the specialist batters, Ravindra Jadeja is also quite useful as a batter and delivers in clutch situations. Despite batting down the order, Jadeja averages 32 with the bat in ODIs with 13 half-centuries to his name.

Indian Bowlers for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

India has all the areas covered with the ball for the World Cup. They have the No.1 ranked ODI bowler in their unit, Mohammad Siraj. Siraj recently took a fifer in the final of Asia Cup 2023. He is then supported by Bumrah, one of the best regarding accuracy. Although Shami is often expensive with the ball, he is a genuine wicket-taker.

The spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin are a nightmare for any opponent. Kuldeep has 33 wickets in ODIs this year. Ravindra Jadeja is also handy on surfaces. Ashwin remains the only right-arm spinner for India, and he recently made a timely comeback in the Indian side against England when they tested their bench strength.

Team India All-Rounders World Cup 2023

India has a good pool of all-rounders. Hardik Pandya can bat well and has bowled well, too for India. Pandya averages 25 with the ball in ODIs this year, while with the bat, he averages 33.

Ravindra Jadeja is also very handy with the bat and good with the ball. Shardul Thakur is another individual who has developed himself as an all-rounder. Although he averages just 17 with the bat, his strike rate of 105 proves that he can add quick and crucial runs with the bat. With the ball, he does leak runs but guarantees the team wickets.
