England Announce ODI Squad for South Africa Tour

England Cricket Board ( ECB ) has announced the 14 – member squad for the three match ODI series against South Africa starting on 27 January 2023. Jofra Archer is included in the squad as he is making a much awaited comeback after recovering from severe injuries. Archer played his last international match in March 2021 when he suffered from an elbow injury and after that other back injuries. So he is returning to international cricket after almost two years. Archer played a vital role in England making the World Champions in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Reece Topley is also able to make his name in the squad. Topley missed the ICC T20 WC in Australia this year due to an ankle injury but he has made a good recovery and is available for ODI series against South Africa.

Ben Duckett and Harry Brook are also added to the squad. Ben Duckett made his comeback after a long time in ODI cricket as he played his last ODI international in 2016. Meanwhile, Harry Brook who stunned Pakistan in the recent Test Series and scored 3 Test Hundreds got a maiden call for this series. Based on the recent performances against Pakistan both Duckett and Brook are added to the squad. 

England is going with the pace attack including Archer, Topley, David Willey, Olly Stone, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid will be the spin options for England. 

This series in going to be good preparation for both teams ahead of ICC ODI World Cup 2023. South Africa is number 11 in the world cup super league table so this series will be an opportunity for them as they are yet to qualify for World Cup. 

The three match ODI series will take place on 27 January 2023 in Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein and continue until 1 February when the last ODI will be played in Diamon Oval, Kimberley
