The series begins on 22nd August 2023 and concludes on 26th August. Right after the series, both teams will participate in Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan announced a strong looking 18 Men Squad and this is probably the preliminary pool of players who will feature for Pakistan in World Cup 2023 as well. The squad is a strong one, led by Babar Azam, Pakistan have 5 spinners in their squad as they look to conquer the Sri Lankan conditions.

Afghanistan also announced a full strength squad. The ODI squad of Afghanistan saw the return of Noor Ahmad. Afghanistan have the experienced spin trio of Mujeeb, Rashid and Nabi in their squad as well.
