England World Cup 2023 Squad

The defending champions of the ICC Cricket World Cup announced their squad for this year’s World Cup with many surprises. Although they have a settled white-ball unit, they still have to tweak it to announce their bets 15 for World Cup 2023. Below are the complete details of the England World Cup 2023 Squad.

England World Cup 2023 Squad

The biggest surprise and positive for England was the return of Ben Stokes, who had announced retirement after the 2019 World Cup. However, skipper Jos Buttler convinced him to make another World Cup appearance. Another surprise was the omission of Jason Roy. Roy was a part of the provision squad, but he was left out after he failed to feature in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand due to back problems. Harry Brook was then added to the squad.

The analysis of England’s Squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 follows.

England Batters for World Cup 2023

England have developed a reputation for a batting lineup with tremendous firepower. The defending champions have the likes of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone in their lineup. All of them are capable of playing at any pace in ODI cricket.

Malan and Buttler have been the top run-getters for England this year in ODI cricket with 500+ runs. The returning Ben Stokes stunned everyone in the England vs New Zealand 3rd ODI, where he scored 182(124) and gave us a teaser of what to expect in the World Cup.

Liam Livingstone was also in crazy form before the World Cup. Jonny Bairstow is another beast of a batter in this lineup. He has been in and out of the side, but the potential and his ODI average of 45 with a strike rate of 103 tell that he is capable of mass destruction with the bat.

It won’t be wrong to say England has the strongest-looking batting unit going into the World Cup 2023.

England Bowlers for World Cup 2023

England’s bowling unit have great quality, too. England has Reece Topley, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, David Willey and Sam Curran in their pace attack. The most threatening pacer remains Mark Wood. His extreme pace makes him very dangerous for the batters to face.

Sam Curran already has 12 wickets in ODIs this year, averaging 25. Reece Topley’s swing and wicket-taking ability make him a good quality pacer. David Willey and Chris Woakes will feature as all-rounders, but in less supportive conditions, they must find new ways to pick up wickets.

Adil Rashid remains the prime spinner of this unit. With his 15 wickets in ODIs, he is the highest wicket-taker for England this year. Supporting him would be Moeen Ali. Moeen is not a genuine wicket-taker, but in Indian conditions, his experience can be useful for England.

England All-Rounders for World Cup 2023

English all-rounders include Moeen Ali, David Willey, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran. Curran has improved brilliantly with the ball and can hit big shots with the bat. The same is the case with Moeen Ali. He adds great value with the bat to the side. He has 209 runs to his name this year in ODI cricket, and in Indian spin-friendly conditions, it won’t be easy to face Moeen Ali.

Chris Woakes won’t be the first-choice player, but he gives depth to the squad with good swing bowling and excellent power hitting at the end. David Willey has a similar role as Chris Woakes, except Willey is great with death bowling, too.
