A Reponse to Shoaib Akhtar’s Video

Sarfaraz and Shoaib

Just as when we are witnessing Pakistan cricket as it lowest point not only in performance but also in administration and cricket reforms, a video message from Shoaib Akhtar circulated across social media in which he accused Karachi cricketers as timid and the ones who cannot stamped their authority.

Whenever Pakistani cricket faced turmoil it was Karachi based cricketers who either has give sacrifices or stood against the PCB authorities.

In 1982 when there is a player revolt in Pakistan cricket in which all most of the players created a lobby as they don’t want to play under the captaincy of young Javed Miandad who is from Karachi. It was big heart of Javed Miandad that he relinquishes the captaincy for betterment of Pakistan cricket.

May be the first man in Pakistan cricket who stood against the authorities is Rashid Latif who hails from Karachi. It was in 1993-94 when Rashid Latif raised his voice against corruption in Pakistan cricket. What happened next was always on the cards as all the players whose name comes up in fixing allegations played their cricket and enjoyed several positions in PCB where as the cricket career of Rashid Latif and Basit Ali who announced their retirement at pinnacles of their career nosedived as their relation with the authorities in PCB always remain sore.

He also said that Asad Shafiq should have been compared with fab4 (Root, Kohli, Smith & Williamson),  can Rawalpindi Express confirm if our new captain Azhar Ali  who also played same amount of cricket as Asad is compared or discussed among the modern greats.

I am against any lobbying and grouping but the when a player of Shoaib Akhtar’s caliber give such statements than this can create rifts not only among the players but also among the fans. And it gives another reason of division to already divided nation.

Only time will tell how much authority Azhar and Babar can stamped by their captaincy under one man show or dictatorship of Misbah ul Haq.
