Pakistan cricket board have announced list of centrally contracted players for season 2019-20. Contract will be effective from July 01, 2019 and last till June 30, 2020.
To no surprise regime of Managing Director Waseem Khan in PCB just started has he made his intentions pretty clear in few of his decisions where quality has been preferred over quantity . 33 players received PCB’s central contract last year and this year number of centrally contracted players reduced to 19 with increase of 25-40% in cricketer’s remuneration.
Senior players Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik may read writing on the wall as both of them have been ousted from list mainly because of downfall in their form.
As currently PCB is recruiting for new selection committee, the list of players finalized by below personnel’s:
Zakir Khan (Director International Cricket Operations),
Haroon Rasheed (Domestic Cricket Operations),
Muddasir Nazar (Director, National Cricket Academy), and
Wasim Khan (Managing Director, PCB).
One good thing which emerges is the consideration of last year’s performance rather than the seniority and experience. Likes of Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Abbas & Wahab Riaz have been promoted from C to B category, whereas Shaheen Shah Afridi promoted from E to B and Mohammad Rizwan promoted from E to C category.
Some star performers who failed to repeat their good showing have been demoted such as Fakhar Zaman (B to C), Mohammad Amir (A to C), and Hassan Ali (B to C) categories.
Salaries of Pakistani Cricketers
Category A (PKR 1.1m)
Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Yasir Shah
Category B (PKR 750,000)
Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Abbas, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Wahab Riaz
Category C (PKR 550,000)
Abid Ali, Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood and Usman Shinwari
On the other hand few of the consistent performers of past few first class seasons who got emerging or retainer category last year have not been included in any of the categories. Few of the emerging players can be accommodated to keep them motivated.
