India vs Sri Lanka Today Match Preview

Team India are at 2nd Spot in the points table with 6/6 wins in the event. Sri Lanka is hanging at 7th Spot with just 2 wins. If Sri Lanka lose this game, they will almost be eliminated from the event. India on the other hand, if they win, will qualify for the semis.

Team India’s recent-most match was against England which they won by hundred runs. Their sheer dominance with the bat was challenged in this game. They got restricted to 229/9, but their bowlers did a fantastic job to defend it. This was India’s first win in the event while defending.

Sri Lanka on the other hand lost their last game to Afghanistan. Although before that game, Sri Lanka had also defeated England. But against Afghanistan, their bowling did not do anything special.

Wankhede is a high scoring ground and teams prefer to bat first here. South Africa have played 2 games at this venue and both times, they opted to bat first and posted 380+ on the board. India clearly has a stronger batting unit so they will start as favorites. Toss with play a key role, as batting first sides have an advantage.

Sri Lanka will have immense pressure in this game. It is a must-win game for them and their lineup has been very unstable due to various injuries. It will be tough for them to win here.

India Playing 11

Team India might do one change and that will be to bring in Ishan Kishan replacing Shreyas Iyer. Iyer has been average with the bat and has got out repeating the same mistake again and again.

Players to Watch Out For

Team India is being carried by Rohit Sharma currently. The way Rohit batted in the game against England showed his brilliant class that he can play as per the situation. When situation is set he will be a master blaster and when situation is tough he will occupy the pitch and score runs. Suryakumar Yadav also did really well and hopes will be high from both of them to score big again.

With the ball, Mohammad Shami has been outstanding. He was on the bench for the initial phase of the event until Pandya got injured. Ever since Shami has come back, we have seen tremendous pace and accuracy from him with the ball.

For Sri Lanka Sadeera Samarawickrama is their top performing batter currently. He averages 61 with the bat in last 10 ODIs and has played impactful knocks in this event as well. Their skipper, Kusal Mendis also did well in the first phase of the tournament and even in the last game against Afghanistan, he did get a start but couldn’t score big. All eyes will be on the Lankan skipper as it is a must win game and he will have to lead from the front.

Dilshan Maudushanka remains the only positive with the ball for Sri Lanka. He has 13 wickets in last 6 games in ODIs. The young man has great potential and is a genuine wicket taker.
