Sunil Joshi Appointed As Bangladesh Spin Bowling Coach

Sunil Joshi

Bangladesh appointed former Indian spinner Sunil Joshi as their spin bowling consultant ahead of the upcoming series against Australia. Bangladesh cricket board made this decision right before the series when their first choice for spin bowling consultant position Australia’s Stuart McGill declined the offer recently.

47 year old Sunil Joshi has served India as slow left arm spin bowler during 1996 – 2000 in 15 test matches. A bowler in a classical mould whose basic strength was his flight which he used to deceive the batsman.  Not very successful at international level but Sunil Joshi had his moments during his stay as an international cricketer. In Bangladesh’s inaugural test match Sunil Joshi was the man who took 8 wickets & scored 92 runs to get man of the match and once in a one day international against South Africa he had an exceptional time by bowling 6 maidens out of the allotted 10 overs and notched up 5 South African batsman at the expense of just 6 runs to get the man of the match award.

A great success at domestic level with more than 600 wickets to his credits in 160 matches in a career spanned over 19 years for various teams.  Sunil Joshi previously coached Hyderabad & Jammu Kashmir in Indian domestic circuit whereas at international level he had been appointed as a spin bowling consultant of Oman’s national team.

As Bangladesh will be planning to set up a spin trap for Australians than Bangladeshi’s left arm spinner can learn a lot form Sunil Joshi. Experienced Shakib Al Hasan and young duo of Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Mirza can get lots of advice and tips from that Indian veteran.

Sunil Joshi will join the Srilanks’s Chandika Hathurusingha (Head Coach), West Indian legend Courtney Walsh (Fast Bowling Coach) and Zimbabwean Richard Halsall (Fielding Coach) in Bangladeshi coaching panel. It is also to be known that position of batting coach is vacant as Bangladesh cricket board did not renewed the contract of Srilankan Thilan Samarawera who was serving on that position.
